It is a DSU card which requires a CSU card to operate and is very much like the DIU2130. The difference is that the DIU2130 supports two high speed data ports while the DIU2131 supports one high speed V.35 data port (n x56K or n x64K) plus one low speed RS-232 port @ 1200 to 64K baud.
The single RS-232 data port handles synchronous data only and may be assigned to use any single timeslot on the CSU card with which it is associated. One DS0 is used for each DIU2131 RS-232 channel.
In order to use a DIU2131 the node must be controlled by an SCC card with version 1.81 or higher firmware. As of April 1997 no version of NCC firmware supports the DIU2131.
Once the user has navigated to the DIU2131 card the Configuration command may be used to do both configuration and diagnostic functions:
