The Far Element command is used to start a craft port session to a CSU or IDCSU card at the FAR end of a T1 circuit. Use the NEAR command to end this remote session.
NEAR and FAR are only useful when a full T1 circuit has continuous ESF framing from one end to the other.
Typically the FAR command will not function if a T1 passes through a DACS (Digital Access and Crossconnect System) in
the telephone company environment. The DACS usually terminates the FDL portion of the ESF which is used for the FAR terminal session.
While using the FAR command to access a remote card only the CSU or IDCSU card at the remote site can be accessed. It is not possible to use the FAR command
to configure any other card in the same shelf at the remote site.
